Have there be an option between red or white color, maybe even use color changing LEDs and have the user program the light color themselves.

If you've got someone with coding skills, computerized reprogramming/control software would be a pretty fun addition. But make sure to write it so it can be used on OS X and Linux too please. :)

This is definitely a pretty cool idea...if you can jump the hurdles sign me up to buy one!

You should have 120v and 240v switchable voltages. This is so you can use the panel for 120v sirens like a Model A but then could use the 240v on a outdoor warning siren like a Model 5. Also if going into big detail maybe make it AC/DC changeable.

Hello everyone,

I'm new here but I'm the friend josh is working on this project with. I have the basic core of the hardware laid out for the most part and wanted to give a list of planned features I hope to implement, and ones currently in, to get any feedback since I am newer to the siren world.

The planned features are as follows:

-2 relay output for 240VAC at 5A each. Both SPDT-NO
-2 Preset timers along with at least 1 user programmable timer
-On board display (currently 3 digit LED numeric) with input buttons for programming set times and other settings right on board
-Currently it has an optional wifi setup on board that communicates with the main controller via a UART interface
-Battery back up for 12v battery (might toy with the idea of different voltages for lithium ion batteries later)
-As per request I will add an on board power supply and control settings for RGB LED strips that can be mounted in case
-A separate watchdog chip isolated from the main circuitry that will kill power if the outputs have been active for more than a user set period
-Input for a K type thermal couple that can be mounted on the sirens motor housing to kill power if motor becomes too hot
-May add an on board dtmf transciever if requested
-May add an on board DAC and speaker/amp to play test tones
-Currently have test LEDs on both outputs that can be triggered independently of relays via a dip switch selector
-Could add Bluetooth if requested
-Could add Xbee if requested
-Connector for an external wifi antenna if you plan on mounting it inside a metal enclosure

Any feedback on ideas would be awesome as, like I said, I'm new to the world of sirens

Also keep in mind this is hobby grade and a personal project so if something suggested doesn't make it chances are the price was just too high or it was too involved to be viable to add.

Thanks,
Andrew

A lcd display corresponding with the buttons would seem very hard. I think a AR timer-STYLE thing would be wayyyy cheaper.

No LCD, just a red number display, like a small scoreboard.

Do you mean the segmented display? It would be awesome if they still made nixie tubes to use as a counter or something. That would make it look really vintage.

What about adding different sounds such as tones and timings for different regions? I mean it wouldn't hurt to have it being customisable to suit other regions.

If you search for a Swiss air raid siren test for example, those kind of tones? This suggestion is towards if it happens to be electronic (electronic siren) otherwise disregard if it is towards a mechanical siren.

That is a possibility, although with the boards that will support electronic siren head units it will probably be a very standard tone around 500hz, and possibly dual tone. Because of how basic this is, attack will not be an option for those who will purchase a board that supports electronic siren heads at this time.
