Not the most efficient siren ever.

I know the fire chief and the mayor, I'll see what they like about the idea. And once that siren dies out, I'll see about acquiring it.

It might be more cost effective to see what's actually wrong with the existing 2001 and attempt to fix it before jumping the gun and setting the city's wallet on fire. older 2001-SRNs like the one you're mentioning are still fairly serviceable. Can you give us any insights as to what issues it was having?

As for the siren replacement route the 508 and Equinox would be good sirens to go with if they stay with Federal. A 508 brings an improvement in range over the old siren, while the Equinox will perform about the same as the existing 2001 with slightly more coverage and a less expensive price tag - they cost the same as the 2001-130. Both have propagating power from the lower pitch, which is why some of us tend to jump towards them and similar sirens from other manufacturers as opposed to the 130. The 130 would basically perform about the same as the old SRN and probably wouldn't even be noticed by nearby residents since they sound the same.

I agree, a new control panel, motor, radio, etc. would be significantly cheaper than a completely new siren. If the city really does want to replace rather than repair, you cannot go wrong with a Sentry. If the city wants a rotating siren I would suggest the 508 like others have mentioned, or a Whelen Vortex due to their good coverage to price ratio.

They looked at what was wrong with the siren already, It's actually the siren head itself. The controls and everything else are fine. There are bearing problems, rotator problems, and it's a bit rusty and a little dented on one side of the horn (don't know how that happened), so I'll give the city your ideas. Thanks!

Bearings I think can be pulled without taking the siren head down (you could on the thunderbolt anyway... And I think with the 2001 you just have to take the back panel off... I haven't pulled a chopper off one of those before so...) same with the rotator (again I think it's paneling and pulling the old motor out?) but yea...

I just saw a PDF on removing and replacing the sleeve bearing on the 508 2001-130 and equinox sirens straight from federal signals website ill have to see if I can pull it and have it posted here
