The WPS-4000 series are the directional models, there's the WPS-4003 that only has three active speaker cells, and the WPS-4004 that has all four speaker cells active. As far as I know there's really no way to tell the difference between the two other than one would be louder.

The WPS-2900 series are omnidirectional black-disk like 400W speakers, ranging from WPS-2901 with one cell, to the WPS-2910 with ten.

Ok thanks, but with the omnidirectional type. There was like WPS-2700 or WPS-2900. How can I tell the difference between the first two numbers?

The 2700 has white supports, the 2800 black supports, but with large screens, and the 2900 is like the 2800 but with small screens.
In my opinion, I think there way too many 2001's in Indiana!

Since this thread is up, I guess this is a good time to ask a question of my own:

What are the differences between A, B and C-series Thunderbolts?

Thank you for the information. I have always been wondering what the difference was, because they look almost the same.

A: Horizontally mounted blower, pretty much what you expect a Thunderbolt to be. B: Vertically mounted blower, a C-face motor to drive the chopper, with the collector rings housed in the rotator housing instead of the chopper tube, a different rotator housing design and an eye bolt on the chopper cap. C: Siren head is largely identical to the A series, but uses a blower pretty much like what the B series used. The B and C series blower housings are a bit smaller and more square.
Down to a Thunderbolt chopper, still a few goofy flashlight-siren combos, and a Model L.

Way wrong. The rotator is a mark of age, not Vortex/400x series. The older 400x siren heads have a belt-driven rotator with a rectangular housing. The later ones are gear with the square housing. I suppose it's possible all Vortex units are new enough to have the newer rotator.

EDIT: I added more information about the rotators and Vortex units on the 4000 series wiki page

The Vortex and 4000 series sirens can, however, be identified via the small protrusion on the rotator itself. If the protrusion is a circle, 4000, if it's a square, Vortex. So far I have never seen these prove wrong. Another thing is the control cabinet: If it's just one small, square compartment, it's a Vortex. If it's a Type I or Type II (I don't believe 4000 series sirens used the Type III), which means that there would be extra compartments on the bottom of the controller, then it's a 4000.
