I was downtown today, and found another pole mounted 2001 near old tiger stadium. It's on Brooklyn st. and Porter st.

Use the "Birds Eye View" to see it.

Are the sirens in Wayne County operated as a county-wide system or do the local municipalities (cities/townships) own and operate their own sirens?
I wasn't aware that Detroit had so many sirens. I was in the Detroit area last year and noticed that the suburbs had a lot of sirens (Whelens) but I didn't notice any in the downtown area.

In Wayne County, each community activates their own siren system. Sadly, due to political infighting, Wayne County never went centralized with their siren systems, or 9-1-1 dispatch centers. Most of the sirens use VHF-High band, for radio control on various frequencies.

There are very few area's in Macomb county and oakland county that have whelen's. The majority are 2001's.
For downtown, I have yet to see any older sirens.
Homeland security/Emergency management for detroit are not very helpfull(so far) in anwsering my questions.
I did get a reply from Ingham county. They test the first saturday at 1pm for the whole county except mason, they test the first monday at 1pm. I haven't figured out what so special about that town?

Great pics. Sorry for the dumb question but what's the difference in a regular 2001 & a 2001 SRNB?
