Some of the ad's I've seen have "Hear Our Roar" so I'm not sure if that where the name comes from, or its it's a play on the name itself.

HOR sirens are pretty good, they have a very smooth sound. The 5 and 7 1/2 HP sirens sound really good. Roslyn FD has a 5 or 7 1/2 HOR in service and West Hempstead has a 10 HP dual rotor HOR on the firehouse. There are pictures of it somewhere, it has 4 cowls where the other models had only 2 cowls. Different from Federal, all HOR sirens do not have any sheet metal base covering the siren motor. Only cowls covering the top rotor intakes.

Thank you for correcting.
By the way, H?rmann was found in 1955 and it lasted another ten years until they started the production of sirens.

According to the ad, New York City must have had these sirens for their air raid system in the 1950's.

Bitte sch?n. If American/British style dual-tone sirens were ever used in Germany, I doubt that they would sound like an HOR.

I've got an old set of World Book encyclopedias from the late 1950s that show a H.O.R. Super Sirex in Chicago under the 'Civil Defense' entry. It almost looks like it has a swiveling base and a ring gear for rotation.
Say NO to excessive siren testing - overtesting desensitizes the public.
Say NO to voice siren systems - multiple origins = unintelligible audio.

I believe they do have a rotation mechanism. These are the same sirens in Gilbert, AZ correct?

Close lol, they are in Scottsdale, Arizona. Although one thing I cannot figure out is there is also a HOR siren as a display in the Tempe Historical Museum, I wonder where that one came from.

I took pictures of the one at Navajo Elementary School when I was visiting a friend two years ago. He lives about 5 blocks from the school. Unfortunately it and another siren will be taken down soon from what I've heard. Pics can be found on my Flickr page here.
I should update the description since I know what the name of it is now but I'm feeling lazy.

Must of been monsoon season when you visited. Also there is a chance the sirens may not even be known about, I heard from a kid on youtube whos dad works for the EMA in tempe, he said that alot of records about the sirens were lost in the 80's during a move..
