If the yellow light is marked for 120 volt use, the neon bulb is probably dying. If it is a 240 volt indicator, there is insufficient voltage. After 20-30 years, neon bulbs turn black with carbon, leak gas, or get light sensitive and flicker or go out when light strikes the bulb. You can find indicators almost identical to these on eBay (search for pilot lights).
