Wow I'm suprised you were able to get that close. It didn't look like it would really be that close. It's probably a good thing you found this problem though, before it finally dies. It still sounds interesting even if it's near death. Awsome job, keep up the good vids.

I think it would be in the best interest of the county to just completely replace the siren. Even though it would most likely be replaced by a 2001-130, it would be better to pour money into a slightly more powerful siren with battery backup than have the motor fixed. From what I hear, because of the way they're designed, many TBeams have been replaced for motor problems, I imagine because of the way the reflector is directly connected to the siren motor.

That Thunderbeam sounds like a router with some funky wood being fed through it.
Oddly enough, had the same thoughts. Need's to be fixed pretty bad. At the end i also hear a Thunderbolt... :)

Do you think that the problem is in the motor, or is the baffle's gear train slowing down the motor?

I think that the main problem with this unit is age. The motor is most likely worn out, however, very unclean electricity could be another cause. That roof area created somewhat of a high wind area. I supposed it is possible that the added resistance from the deflecting plate put more wear on the STH-10 motor. Any way you look at it, this siren is broken. If y'all want I can try to go get a video of a different unit in the upcoming months.

Sounds like a bad Armature in the motor. and it is quite expensive to rebar.

I was pleasantly surprised this morning when this appeared in my inbox:

Travis,

Thanks very much for the info. It is always helpful when someone makes
us aware of such a problem. We typically place people in locations to
monitor the sirens, but we never have enough. We will check out that
siren asap.

Thanks again, Mark Kirby

Mark Kirby is the director of EM here in Tippecanoe County. We shall see what becomes of this unit.
