I wonder why no one wanted a coded 2001.

It wasn't really necessary anymore to have coded sirens for calling firefighters anymore, as the main purpose for coded sirens is for fire calls. After VFDs started using radios for calling volunteer fire fighters to the station, they started to not become as Nessesary.

Besides, many fire departments already had or have a siren to call fire fighters still even though radios are more common. Many sirens are very expensive to buy, and it would just be easier to repair the siren they already have. It's a classic case of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

It's also worth noting that three-signal sirens are a maintenance headache. Valves, solenoids and similar mechanisms all require regular maintenance or else they'll seize up eventually. A simple wail signal often gets the job done without needing additional moving parts.

Ironically, the four signal 2001 was most actually a thing. Here are photos of a controller off an early 2001 owned by Bassguybill on the board, taken from Facebook... Notice "2001*4SIG" on the door label.

It was taken From the owner's facebook, like the post says.

Thinking about how much room there is inside a 2001's intake box, I don't think it would be very difficult to install some kind of coding mechanism in there. It might be as simple as putting some kind of automatic damper over the intake grate at the bottom of the box.

Either that or a butterfly damper on the chopper area.
