When I was a kid, the siren on my dad's 12-157 scared me almost every time it went off. I finally outgrew being afraid of it when I was about six. That siren will definitely get your attention.

My black 12-157A is made out of plastic, and so was my dad's 12-157. Where does yours have rust on it?

The on/off switch has a lot of rust. It's very difficult to move it with my fingers so I have to use something hard, like scissors. There's a bit of rust on the inside (the circuit board, I guess), it's visible through the vents in the bottom. The screws in the bottom are also rusted. I'm not sure if I should spray a little WD-40 on the on/off switch or not, I'd hate to damage it.

I don't think that a dab of WD-40 could hurt it. Your weather radio must have been exposed to the elements in order for rust to get inside it. The person who threw it away probably thought it was toast.
