I'd bet that nothing was done deliberately to change the tone of the siren, that it's all deterioration. I'll also bet that dome-ish cover *is* a recycled harrow disk or something like Aunt Maude's old steel mixing bowl. It's too bad so many sirens are totally neglected. Any competent fab shop could make new horns for it, for example.

I seriously doubt that there are any E-57 parts here. Those were sold almost exclusively in Germany and are extremely rare in the USA. In fact, the only American installation of an E-57 (Crescent City, California) removed it a few years later.
