I just watced it again and it sounds almost like the rotor and stator might be making contact somewhere so check the clearance again. As close as the tolerances are on these things it only takes a slight bend in the shift to make stuff start bumping into each other.

Nice truck by the way, I love those old Dodges, I'm guessing yours is a D-250?

That sure sounds good to me... My single phase 5 also makes some clicking noise when turned by hand, and as Archon points out, it's the brushes in mine. I took them out and cleaned them due to a lot of sparking and arcing when I first tried to power it up. I think it's normal to hear them.

As long as it doesn't seem to bind up or begin to vibrate, I think it's OK.

BTW: How did you secure the siren in the truck for the test?
