PLYMOUTH, MICHIGAN to remove all THUNDERBOLTS

Usually, the communities in Wayne County test their sirens at 1300 hours. However, neighboring Washtenaw County, tests their sirens at 1200 hours, from March through September. I wish the latter of the two would test their siren all year long.

It's right behind the Old Police station, the Old FD station is a few hundred feet across the parking lot.

Here's the reply I got from Jeff at WSS.

"Plymouth is definitely getting new sirens, we are going to begin to install
them starting tomorrow or the next day. They are getting 2001 130 dB units,
same as everyone else in Wayne County. If you missed the opportunity to
record them during this months test on Saturday, more than likely that will
be your only opportunity. There are four Thunderbolts in Redford that are
still in service and will be for the next few months, they are going to be
replaced soon so if you are interested you will need to get there some time
in the next couple of months."

2001 130s are not as good as the ASC Tempest series. The 2001 series is way too high pitched. Of course, nothing beats a dual tone Thunderbolt.

Hey, here's one of Plymouth, MI's Thunderbolt, and get this, just 1000! A very rare T-Bolt. But it's damaged, it's by an old Fire Station. Cool for you to mention this as soon as I found this:

I think that it is very sad to see such old and rare sirens replaced. Have you thought about adopting one? Ask them if you can have it, if they already are sending it somewhere, ask the place they could be sending it to, to see if you can have the siren. It's probably just going to get sraped or used for parts...*shiver*. Ohhh, I hate the thought...

Yeah I was going to post this video in the A/V forum but I figured it had to already have been posted. It was quite shocking to see an ancient tbolt in such bad shape.

Oh, I guess that 1000 isn't going to get fixed.

Actually, they did fix the 1000. I didnt think they would. But at the beggining of the summer they fixed it and it has been working. You can tell because the chopper housing/rotator housing is the CD Yellow, but the rest of the siren, as are the other Plymouth T-Bolts, still "CAT Yellow/Orange"

Also, this was in the newspaper, and it also says the will be updating the controls of a siren. My best guess is that this is the 2001 the city has (the only siren in city limits, and is operated by the Plymouth Dispatch Center, which is a unified one between the city and township, so they run all Plymouth sirens) This 2001 is roughly 5-8 years old, but not positive.
