I think the Whelen R4 is something like 129dB. A loud siren indeed.

Awesome video, i thought Lewisville did Voice tests....i remeber i belive you sending videos to the siren contest of a 2810 doing Alert and Whoop and having voice.

I didn't submit those videos, it was someone else from Flower Mound. Lewisville does do voice and tone tests, but seeing as the is a Vortex, it only is tone tested.


Lewisville, like almost every other city in the D/FW Metro tests the first Wednesday of the month @ 1:00PM.

So, yeah, I've stood up under one of these sirens before. I must say that it's the only time that I have ever taken a BC Powder for a headache. I can only imagine what it felt like had I been in front of the siren about 200 feet away. I'd probably be deaf lol - my mom and my brother were across the street and I'll never forget the looks on their faces. That is by far the loudest siren I have yet to hear in person.

the alert part sounds (to me) like the Thunderbolt 1000 in Louisville, KY from the siren archive.
