Really? I must get over there sometime while on vacation.

Anyways, back on topic, anyone know about this mystery siren?

In all my years of researching outdoor warning sirens, I have never seen a siren like this before. Is it still operational?

I'm not sure what it is, but I messed with the brightness and contrast so we can better see the innards.

It clearly has an intake bell on the bottom, is single tone, and the motor is mounted to the top. That's all I can tell.
Nothing but a low-down, double-dealing, backstabbing, larcenous perverted worm!

Anyone know what these E8's sound like? Omni-directional 2001's?

Sound nice, kinda like a mix of a STL with the chopping noise of a 2001. I believe the SLO county siren test is on the 27th, so if anyone currently resides in SLO county we would all appreciate you grabbing the video camera this Wednesday!

Perhaps the mystery siren is a common actual siren in custom housing?

Tempting!!!!!!

I live about 2 hrs 45 mins south of there. I have a friend who works at the TV station KSBY in SLO, and he's also a Ham operator and is a volunteer on the siren test program. He has a Toyota that I want, so maybe I'll go up there on the 27th (pending a confirmation of the test), hear the test, and come home with a new fun toy  . No promises though... We have a lot going on, and I'd have to commit the whole day.

E8's have 8 ports so they sound nothing like an STH10 or 2001. They are a bit higher pitched than an STL10.

I'd love to hear one. If anyone lives anywhere near one, please make a video!

Doesn't Indianapolis's new system have some E8's?
