Isn't that a blower platform on that pole that the speakers are sitting on?

Being that low is dangerous for the human ear. It should be much higher up on a pole, even if it is there to warn the lake.

Bump, here's the Flickr link to the image:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/mrbruno/353937935/
The uploader says he's found three on the lake, located at:
35° 37.376'N 78° 54.724'W
35° 37.092'N 78° 55.266'W
35° 37.769'N 78° 55.959'W
I can't tell for sure, but they appear to be gone. They are/were most likely nuke sirens.

Has anyone been to the area recently? That's really the only way we can tell.

These sirens sort of remind me of the Conowingo 612s. They are all mounted low-ish (Minus the one on the dam)

I haven't been able to find this siren and it's not listed as a siren in the Shearon-Harris system. If anyone can find it, please let me know and I'll add it to the NC siren map

Jason, in my spare time on the weekends, I like to go boating at Harris. It is actually very enjoyable! Anyways, back to the main conversation. I have not seen the EOWS, and there isn't any evidence left that they actually existed in the area. Although, the warning signs throughout the area says that boaters will be warned by loudspeakers. I am assuming that the "loudspeakers" are the Whelens by the plant and the boat launch, however I am not 100% sure. Next time, I will go to the coordinates again, and maybe dig for wires, or any remaining foundation. Don't want to sound stupid, but did the EOWS on the lake actually exist?
Thanks

If you go to the areas the coordinates listed take you to, then you will find where the sirens used to be. I went back to 2/2005 on Google Earth and I could see the sirens there. I was going to upload screenshots, but it told me the files were too large.

After looking at Google Earth, one of them seemed to be removed during 2009. And yes, they look like they have replaced Thunderbolts.
