I wouldn't be too worried about Whelens. According to http://3t22.tripod.com/id14.html, there are still Federal sirens as close to Columbus as Madison County, which is directly west of Franklin County, including a 2001.

I talked to my wife's uncle. He said Federal Signal got the contract for the sirens in Vandalia so it looks to be 2001-130s DCs. Although he did not know which model siren they purchased. It's a pretty sure guess that they will be 2001s. Sirens were $11000 each ,RF controller systems $4000 each ,poles and installations approximatly $5000. Totaling up to about $20000 and some change per siren.

Thanks for the info Jason. I figured it would be Federal since they seem to be the dominant siren manufacturer around there.

Vandalia has no sirens so these will be the first for them. I will be making a trip up to Dayton today. We are going to the Airforce museum. As usual I will be keeping an eye out for sirens. :D I'll post some pics if I see anything interesting.

There are a few sirens along the way that are right off of I-75 if you want to make a few side-trips along the way...

STH-10 in Sharonville (Sharon Road exit, behind Bob Evans)
Pole-mounted TBolt in Franklin (SR 123, just south of I-75 at the business park)
Pole-mounted TBolt in Moraine (Dryden Road exit)

I got a pic of the T-bolt on Dryden Rd. and the T-128 just behind it I was going to ask the fireman if it still worked ,but he was in gear and I figured I would'nt bother him. I was trying to get a picture of the Tbolt with the T-128 in the background but it did'nt work out. I also found a model 5/7 just behind the sound wall along 75 by the GM truck and bus plant. I was moving too fast and could'nt get a picture. The Tbolt on Dryden Rd. and T-128 sirens are 180 yards apart so there is either a corp line between them or the Tbolt is inactive. I also found out where one of Vandalias sirens is going. Vandalia sports complex park right behind my wifes uncles house so I may get some video of it being installed hopefully.

It's very possible that Trotwood went with Werden Siren P-127s. Englewood just to the north has 3 or 4 of them and I know there was contact between the city of Trotwood and Werden Siren.

Edit: I just read the Trotwood article all the way through and it says that they're only spending half of the normal price through grant money from the county. The system without the discount would cost $144,200 which would be a little over $20,000 for each siren. Really at this point, it could be 2001-130s, T-128s, or Whelen directional sirens. Most likely it's T-128s since there was contact between Werden Siren and Trotwood, but just by reading this article, it's still open.

Looks like 2001-130s I was able to dig up a city coucil meeting document for Trotwood. It is two months old, but they mention FS 2001 sirens although reading it does not look like a decision has been made. I found one for Vandalia also. Vandalia is only paying half the cost also. You'll need adobe to view the documents.
