I'd say it has to be a horn, too. If not, they'd have to have an alarm sound only coming from the one speaker by the activated strobe, and that doesn't seem too likely. It wasn't over the system so you could hear it through the whole store in all the speakers; the sound was just coming from that one strobe. They have six of those alarms throughout the store, but the one in frozen foods is just the strobe, with the black mount/sounder removed. The light is just mounted on a flat metal plate. Maybe they use that one as some sort of refrigeration alarm, but just wanted the light. Probably because the ceiling is lower there and they didn't want a loud alarm there. The one they have randomly placed in grocery DOES have the sounder, but for some reason that one's mount/sounder is heavily caked with dust. I'm guessing they don't use that one for anything. Maybe the two that they have above the emergency exits are the only ones that are actually functional anymore. They're the only ones I've ever seen going off.
On a side note, the one amber colored one (otherwise identical to the red ones throughout the store) that they have near guest service also has another amber colored little mini strobe right beside it, about this size: http://a1672.g.akamai.net/7/1672/116/20 ... 818944.jpg I just thought that was kind of odd. I asked my friend today who works up front there if he knows what the amber colored strobes are for, but he had no idea, so apparently they no longer use the amber ones.
