Paducah, KY and the surronding communities of Lone Oak and Concord does audible testing of their sirens at 1:00 PM on the first Saturday of every month just like clockwork. They used to have nine Thunderbolt sirens, but at least one of them on the southside near Cole Lumber and Don Peck's Moving & Storage have been replaced by a 2001. You'll still find a working Thunderbolt on the southside near Thurman and Bridge Street, behind Carquest Auto Parts.

Downtown you'll find a working Thunderbolt atop the castle like tower of the historic Irvin Cobb Hotel near 6th and Kentucky, now a home for senior citizens. You'll also find a working Tbolt near the caretaker's shed at Oak Grove Cemetery. There is also a working Tbolt at the firehouse at Jackson Street across from Parisa Drive. There's also a working Tbolt atop Lourdes Hospital off Lone Oak Road and one at the Lone Oak fire station at Lone Oak Road at Cave Thomas Drive.

In addition to these, there's a working Thunderbolt at Concord Elementary off Hinkleville Road near Kentucky Oaks Mall.
The most overlooked opportunities are in the learning of and improvement in old technologies.
