Correct. A 12/8 would sound like a T-135.

Of course, an 8/12 siren running on UK 50Hz power wouldn't sound quite like an 8/12 siren running on US 60Hz power. The only British 8/12 siren that I've seen is the one shown in this video.

There is/was also an unknown 8/12 siren at the Port Stanvac Refinery in Australia, running on 50Hz power. It can be heard in these videos sounding alert, attack and another attack.

Yes, their site did say that for a while, but I've never been able to find out where they went. They may have been decomissioned by now. If I knew where they were, I would try and record one!

Thanks, I don't have a very good ear for music. It sounded like the minor third sirens I had heard in other European videos but I only saw what looked like 8 ports on the low tone side. 10/12 makes sense.

Norfolk haven't scrapped their sirens... YET!

The annual test DIDN'T go ahead during August 2010, and the sirens are now "de-commissioned" awaiting their removal, with West Norfolk's being the first sirens to be taken down.

So if you want to photograph any remaining examples, best get in there sooner rather than later!

However, if things go to plan, a few of Norfolk's sirens will be preserved after removal from their posts.

It seemed inevitable that the Essex flood siren network may go in the future. After all, they got by the mass scrapping of sirens in 1991 by the skin of their teeth.

We do! there is an Allertronic AL-4000 in a chemical plant here. with the analogue controls. maybe too new though.

EDIT: Found out that the nickel refinery that owns the siren do a monthly test of their emergency sirens. No Cyclone video, but there are many news articles, saying that the noise can be heard up to 6 miles away. Cyclone, anyone?

I wonder if that actually runs on 50hz and will have a lower sound... Is all of the power in the UK 50hz or is there some 60hz?
