Low mounted Sirens in US

Plus, they're all small towns that don't need the siren to be mounted very high to cover the entire town. Keeping it low makes accessing it for maintenance purposes much easier.

I really think we need to revisit the definition of low since a lot of these sirens posted lately are at normal height (even if on the lower end of normal). Model 2s aren't loud and that's not an abnormal mounting height for one.

Compared to what I see around here, that Model 2 looks low to me. Where I live the sirens are usually 3-4 stories up on the pole. But I've seen a few exceptions, like a Model 5 mounted 2 stories up to the front of a fire hall, or that STL-10 I saw out near Buffalo, NY.

Yea but the sirens are more prone to curious people messing with it.

I doubt it. If someone's that determined to tamper with safety equipment, a taller pole isn't going to be much of a deterrent. Since most of these low sirens are in smaller towns, the chance anyone is gonna mess with the siren is fairly low and they'll piss off the town if they do.

Agreed. Anyone who really wants to mess with it will find a way regardless. The Thunderbolt 1003 in Caledonia, NY was mounted about three stories up on a pole and was shot at and damaged by someone with a .22 caliber rifle. I'm not sure if anyone ever found out who shot it, but the horn and chopper were removed for about month for a replacement. That happened probably almost 25 years ago.

Besides, I think mostly siren nerds like us would think others would go out of their way to climb up a ladder to mess with it. Probably because we all want to touch it, pet it, lick it, spin it, etc.
