Thank you, I couldn't tell by the sun's glare.

Is This a siren?

Mon Jun 08, 2009 12:08 am

This is the second one of these that I have seen in Dallas. It doesn't match any siren I have ever seen. If it is a siren, can someone tell me about it. If not, what do you suppose it is?

and a Google street view:

I apologize for the inelegant links, but I'm not ashamed to say that there is too much technology to keep up with.

Very interesting, but I don't think that's a siren. It looks to be some sort of camouflaged communications antenna (possibly for traffic cams or traffic light syncing).

Here's one I found a couple months ago in Preston, IA. Older sirens like this I'm not very familiar with, so apologies for my lack of knowledge in case this ends up being a real easy answer.

I don't know if someone already posted this, but isn't the "dinner plate" siren on page 1 the same type as the sirens at the Oak Ridge, TN Security Complex?

I've seen that type before. I believe that it is a single-tone Decot Red Arrow, which may have been based on the design of the Erick Fire Siren. The Erick is almost exactly like this except without the louvres around the screen. It may also be an Erick, since it appears to have more than 12 ports. Some Erick sirens had around 14 ports, as this one appears to have, but others had 12 ports.
