It should still be active. That siren is in Butler County, not Hamilton County in case you didn't know. Therefore, it should still be there until the City of Hamilton decides to replace it, and nobody knows when that will be.
Resident of a county with big a mixture of sirens, but in the process of being replaced. :(

Okay, I'm thinking of changing from recording the STH-10 in Burlington, to a recording of this T-Bolt: 39? 5'59.37"N 84?31'43.29"W Does anyone knows if it still works, more or less rotates? Answers or facts would be much appreicated. (And, as a random sidenote, I got my firt glimpse of the Federal Bldg. T-Bolt yesterday. Is it possible to see it from the Carew tower, or is the fith third bank towe obstructing my view?)

As most of you know, the YMCA Thunderbolt has been pointed east for quite a while. Tonight, I saw it on my way to the Reds game, and now it's pointed south! I wonder why... :?

Perhaps the horn was blown around by the wind a couple weeks ago.

That particular TBolt has not worked since that business closed well over a decade ago.

I am not entirely sure if you can see the Federal Building tbolt from on top of the Carew Tower or not. I've only been up there once, and I wasn't really into sirens at the time. Even if you can't see it, you should be able to get a great ambiance recording from up there, assuming it's not too windy.

If you're looking for a really unique TBolt to record, I would recommend getting the one on the Park Place at Lytle building on the edge of downtown (400 Pike Street). This one spins faster and has a much higher pitch than just about any other TBolt I've seen/heard. It can be seen clearly from Lytle Park.

Actually, I've recorded that one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-V3uoEps8c

Do you know if that one is going to be replaced?

I was up on the Carew Tower a couple of weeks ago, and I don't remember being able to see any sirens. But Oldiesmann is right, it would be great in terms of ambience. Just don't get stuck in the tiny elevators and you should be fine... :?

Somehow missed that one. The only recording I knew of was an old one of downtown siren ambience that Bellyjae made a few years ago.

Yes, the one on the Park Place at Lytle building is supposed to be replaced at some point. However, I don't know if/when that will happen. I don't know if they're planning on keeping the siren on the roof, since it's a residential building now (it was an office building from the 1950s up until 2002, when R.L. Polk & Co. consolidated its local offices. Don't know what it was used for before then.). Some idiot screwed up the architectural drawings for the roof mounts, so most of the roof-mounted sirens either haven't been replaced yet or have been replaced with nearby pole-mounted sirens (which is what happened in Mt. Airy).
