new toys

Good lick! I hope you enjoy all of the sirens. Just remember- if the unspeakable happens and the spoken for siren(s) become unspoken for please post them on the siren board. Enjoy

Just thought I'd give a little update. I pulled the Model 3 housing apart and gave it to a local metal shop to bend and roll out.

Then today I thought it'd be a good day to pull the chopper cap off the thunderbolt to see what the damage was, it was a bit worse than I thought.

So now I'm looking for a new chopper. Anyone wanna trade?

Man, they really manhandled that model 3 when removing it. I cant wait to see pics of the housing when it comes back from the shop. 8)

Good luck on finding a new chopper for the t-bolt.

btw, nice haul. My favorites have to be that model 2t and the model 3

Is it possible that you can have the metal shop cut out the cracked area of the flange and rebalance the rotor? I don't think it would make too much of a difference in the sound, as all the air will still go out the front of the stator.

Re: Road trip to Springfield IL, and some new toys

So a couple months ago I was on google maps looking through Springfield and for poopoo n' grins I thought I would go check out the city lot where I got the sirens from. Google had updated it since last time I was there, and it showed that they still had some leftover sirens. Now me being the person I am jumped on the phone and made tons of calls. After 4 months and 2 trips up and back (one completely pointless), I finally got the remnants of the old system!

I did not have time to take photos of how they had it all set out for us at the lot, but I did have time to take some photos of some T-128s they have. I was told that these were kept as surplus in case one got taken out by a Storm, or they needed to expand. Either way they're freaking massive

Here's what I got

I only managed to get the housing off of the Darley yesterday. I'm trying to get the Federal apart today

Ouch! What the heck did they do with those things? Unbolt them and shove them off the pole?

Good to see they're going to a good home. Hopefully those controls aren't damaged!

That Darley looks like a trashcan.

That's a Darley? It looks like a GCS siren to me. Is there a tag on it anywhere? Congrats on the haul though!

The thunderbolt was sold over a year ago to William T. who is a member of this board. He did a great job restoring it.

Thanks guys! According to the sales rep from the city, that lot had all of the older sirens at one point in time. After all the auctions and donations this was all that was left. You can bet they were in a hurry to get the rest of them out of there!
