This reminded me of a time back in the late 70's when Smyrna's sirens sounded about 5 A.M. one day. City always tested in alert mode and used alert for tornado warnings; however, this time they sounded the attack signal!

I turned on my TV but there was no news of any impending disaster. Called the police station(where siren closest to my house located); person there told me she didn't know what was happening; she was trying to get the EM director to come shut the things off!

I found out later that day that heavy rains had soaked some of the underground phone lines(sirens were on leased land lines at the time); evidently it caused a short circuit which tripped relay at the police station and made the sirens start sounding.

One can only imagine the effect of hearing those STH-10s sounding "attack" at 5 A.M.!

Yesterday I had the chance to check 3 of the Kennesaw sirens.

The Whelen WS is still at the former FS#8 on Cherokee St. A new extension has been added to the building on same side as siren; I couldn't tell if it's still connected. It didn't have one of the signs(as the other Cobb sirens do) giving the siren # and phone# for Cobb EMA.

I found the WPS-10 at Adams Park in Kennesaw. It's adjacent to one of the ball fields. This one doesn't have a sign with siren # on it either.

Just wonder if the one at old FS#8 is still working.

FS#24 on Paul Samuel Rd.(just off Stilesboro Rd.) still has its Tbolt. Horn was pointing a different direction from when I saw it during my spring trip so I assume it's still working.

I also drove past the intersection of Powder Springs Rd. & County Services Parkway yesterday. Siren #26...a Tbolt..was located at this intersection(right in front of the Waffle House).

I heard(maybe in You Tube video comments) that this siren had been disconnected. It is GONE now; there was no other siren there. Thought there might be a newer one at the EMA headquarters on County Services(short distance away), but there wasn't. Just wonder if a Vortex will go at the intersection of Powder Springs/County Services in the near future.

Did confirm that Tbolts at Cobb FS#10 (Powder Springs Rd. adjacent to Smitha Middle School) and #17 (Barrett Parkway near intersection of Dallas Hwy). are gone; Vortex sirens now at these locations.
