Yes, it was an extremely over-inflated rating. Judging by the ones I've heard and recorded, I'd venture to say they're more likely around 120dB @ 100ft for a three phase or properly running single phase version, with those slow-running single phase RSH-10s being considerably less. Either way, definitely a far cry from the "128dB" rating Federal liked to claim they were.

5 and 7 are both the same siren, and they both put out around 114db.

The extra horsepower doesn't make a difference?

They both peak at around the same speed. That's why the 7 was eventually cancelled.

Where would the Federal Sign and Signal 550AT fit in?

In my experience, it seems to be in the high 110s to lo 120s at 100 ft. Does anyone have some hard numbers out there on this rare model?

If this gets more Db ratings, we should sticky this. Could possibly be useful.

The official name for the Chrysler siren is "Chrysler-Bell Victory Siren", the Chrysler-Bell bit from Bell Telephone Labs working on the siren with Chrysler.

118db for whelen hornet? is this mesured in 30 metres? because it cant be a 400 wat driver. its more than 100 percent in effiency! total interresting!

Updated the list and changed the format a little. It's still got a long way to go, however.

I have a question. Do they measure decibels differently in Europe? I went to KM Europ's website (http://www.km-europ.com/index.php?optio ... Itemid=242), and they have a siren there that says it puts out 147 decibels!!! Since Wikipedia says that the loudest siren ever (The Chrysler.) puts out 138, I assume that they measure decibels a little differently over there. Sort of like Metric versus American measurements. Is that right (I get the feeling that was probably a stupid question, but what can you do?)?

Oh, one more thing; are you sure ACA made an Allertor 130? I couldn't find anything on it anywhere.

To my understanding, Allertor 130s were the 10/12 port version, and used a 20 horsepower motor. Mason City, Iowa used to have some. Troy Sundt said it said Allertor 130 on the control boxes.

My 10/12 MD has a 10 horsepower motor. Don't know why it would require a 20 horse.
