Seattle used their dsa's for earthquakes, volcano eruptions, lahars, weather, and tsunamis. They probally didnt keep the old sirens functional after the cold war because they didnt have the technology to sense a earthquake or a tsunami coming.

DSA's (or any siren for that matter) can't "sense" an earthquake or tsunami coming either. It all depends on who activates them. The only siren operating system that might have that capability would be the "Storm Sentry" package.

Very sad that I never got to see any of these Seattle Bumblebolts, since they have an especially sinister (you described them well) appearance to me. I checked every location on the list and they all seem to be gone.

The Seattle bumblebolts have been gone a long time. Some of them were actually hauled around on the back of a pickup truck and used what i hear was a "hand cranked blower" as the blower. But Washington used to have thunderbolts in tons of places! Spokane and obviously the Longview area considering those still stand (but don't work.) A lot of the thunderbolts in Spokane were either sold or scrapped and that's probably what happened to the Seattle ones as well.
Own and love a Thunderbolt 1000 and a Model 5.

I have many hobbies and interests. And I love them all.

About the DSA's, about 5 months ago, i saw a seller on Ebay in the Seattle area selling white and black 6 horn DSA arrays. They absolutely had to be seattle's. I still would like to know why they got rid of their new system. The system was virtually brand new!
