Wow that was rustoleum? That paint is hard as a rock. It laughed at the sandblaster with 100psi behind it.

Yep, it was all Rustolium. I had the entire siren sandblasted, then I primed the cap with the Rustolium Automotive gray primer, then I shot it with their safety yellow. My dad and I were so frustrated with the Sherwin Williams that we just re-coated the entire siren with Rustolium. I figured since it isn't going back in service anytime soon what's the harm? Plus the topcoat turned out really good.

I'm kind surprised it gave you that much trouble getting off, I thought I remembered it starting to peel after it was finished. Sure it only took me three days and five different sanders to get it off the horn, but I gave the cap a thicker coat anyways.

I think the Texas heat baked it on.

I'm going to paint the housing for my Model 2 Civil Defense yellow. What color would the siren itself been? Right now the siren is red and the rotor is blue.
Anyone have any pictures to what it should look like?

The siren is a gloss gray and the legs are black.

Nope, just the legs are black from the factory. The intake, baffle plate (spacer ring), stator, and motor housing are gray. I've seen some Model 2s that have the legs painted gray, but I think it looks better with the black legs.

Well I finally stripped the paint off my Model 2 housing and primed it... It looks pretty good so far. I started painting it yellow but I didn't have enough time to finish it today.

What kind of paint did you decide to use?
