Wow, seriously? The P-50 was produced from the 80's to 2006. Those P-50's from 2004 or whatever shouldn't be replaced because sirens last much longer than 10 years. If it was 20 years old or older, I could understand why they replaced it. They could be replacing P-50's with T-135 AC/DC's because they want battery backup.

A little off topic, but do you happen to know where the Federal Lion is? If it is close I may snap some pics...

It's in Seneca, about 15 miles east of Ottawa.

That's exactly why they're replacing them. If I'm not mistaken it's a new federal mandate that nuclear plant sirens are required to have battery backup.

I don't mean to keep on ranting about the Lion but do you or Tommy have an exact location on a map/street view?
Back on topic, that makes so much sense why they are replacing them. If they were smaller sirens such as a Thunderbolt/P-15/etc. they could possibly add some battery packs to them to save money (even though I know that they would still remove them anyways).

It's at their police station. OT, are they going to sell the sirens to other cities?

Here is a video I took back in November 2012 showing the Lion and the P-15 owned by La Salle Exelon. I called it a Sterling, but obviously I was wrong.

It depends on who's doing the removals. I believe that cities or municipalities have the option to purchase the sirens, but as far as private collectors go we're SOL. Nuclear Plants, and their contractors, are some of the strictest people I've met when it comes to getting a hold of their old sirens.

The Federal Lion in Seneca was removed today. Pic from Seneca PD Facebook page, someone on there said it was seized up, but the city is keeping it.
