As for parts, they should be. A member here, Clayton Werden, owns the patent for it, and makes them under the name "P-127", and the fact that there are still many around, so I'm imagining that there should be some availability.

Knowing the Perf+Penetrator is a modified RM-130, and the P-127 was the RM-127 (P-10), the sirens are not quite the same internally. Rotation mechanism parts should be compatible, but things like the projector and the rotor/stator are not.

sirendude2012, Actually, the RM-127/P-127 was a P-15, not a P-10.

Here is a video of thegeekgroup's RM-130 with the shrouds taken off. Going by what he says it seems to bear an ACA logo:

I saw that video a few months back. That's a red ACA PN20.

I made a map of all of the sirens that could have any reason to be replaced, with the exception of 2001s and T-128s, since I don't know whether those would be replaced. https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid= ... N2Eaq4E3Hs

The last 500AT is to be removed within this year, so I don't know if it's gone yet. Some of the Allertors and EOWS sirens are to be removed in -15, 16, and 17 as well. I'll be going to Wisconsin again next summer, so I'll travel around to check the status of each of the sirens (if no one has yet). If the 500AT is still in place by then, I might be able to record it, but if it isn't, someone should check and try to record it tomorrow or in December, since it was supposed to be removed already.

I'd be interested in obtaining any siren from Madison by the way :P

I'm pretty sure that the HOR is staying as well, because it was included in the decommission plan as a complete siren, so they have no plans to replace it for now.

Jim tells me none of the other ones taken down, excepting the thunderbolt and the 3T22 still survive. But today he threw one more thing into the mix, collection for parts. The 3T22 is unavailable to me because it has been marked down as being need for parts as he said:
As the contractor of record, I have been instructed to destroy the sirens however I do not have an issue having them going to legitimate collectors as long as it is approved by Dane County. The emergency management representative is on vacation right now so I can not say either way what the final decision will be. I will ask when he gets back for clarification however we have already replaced and scrapped most of the sirens removed from service this year. I will hold Oregon until Dave gets back, Brooklyn is on the save list for parts so not available.
I haven't gotten any information back regarding which units have been replaced exactly, nor the fate of the 500at at this time.

I can eliminate some of the question behind some of them.
  • The Oregon Allertor (#21) was replaced with two sirens; the first one is on the North side of South Perry Parkway between Union Road and South Main Street (indeed this one is already visible in the latest google earth imagery.), the other one is on the southwest side of a park on Bergamont Blvd pretty much at the intersection of that and Fincastle Street. This second one was put up at the same time as the Thunderbolt was replaced. The one on Perry Parkway is an ASC T-128, I do not know the make of the one out on Bergamont yet, as I have not been able to get out that way.
  • The EOWS 612 (#64) just east of Highway 14 on Englehart Drive has been replaced by a 508
  • The EOWS 1212 (#105) further up on Moorland Road has been taken down, no replacement is known of. I assume the new 508 expands coverage enough to remove it from the system.
  • The Allertor in McFarland (#47) on Terminal Drive has been replaced by a 508
  • Interesting to note Siren #43 the allertor on Emil Street sits right in front of Hill Electric, and as of Saturday still stands. I will likely be by this one tomorrow and be able to see if it's still up
  • The Siren in Brooklyn (#70) is labeled wrong as a 2T22 when it is a 3T22 ( I know a moot point, but enough of a one that it makes it special to me.) This one has been replaced by a FS 2001.
  • The one black pin standing for a federal model 2. I have no idea about this one, I know I have looked for this one before, but I can't remember where I got the information that it even existed. In any case, I know it doesn't, at least not anymore. My doctor's office overlooks the exact place that this siren is supposed to be, and there is no siren.
  • The H.O.R. Super Sirex and the Thunderbolt 1000 (#'s 113 & 79 respectively) are safe for this year, so says Jim. Honestly, they will likely just be decommissioned and left to rot if I had any guess, once the county decides they're not useful anymore, or if they stop working.
I will try to get out and get one of these sirens. Unfortunately, I won't be able to get over to the 500at. I have life obligations that I'll be in up to 11:30, and that's over on the east side. My target will likely be Siren #10 the ACA Banshee, I will be able to drive by it earlier and see if it is still a banshee, if it isn't I don't know what I'll do. I really don't feel ready to give this new things the time of day yet. Here's a crazy idea though, maybe the county would let me record the H.O.R from the same roof?

Alright, I'm back from my big trip today. Luckily I was able to get off easy this morning so I was able to get around to many of the different siren's on ACA's List.

First off here's what a lot of you have been wondering:
Image
The 500at is still up, the problem being is that the area is not very parking friendly, and the siren sits next to a school with no access, a preschool, and private property; so I might have to go at this one with a special approach when I go to record it. I say this because I did not record the 500at, I arrived an hour before test time to see if it was still there. It is my target for next month.

My target today was a Pref+Penetrator in Verona, I reasoned on that these are not safe and that no one that I know of has a recording of these sirens. I've seen ones of 500at's before but the Pref+Penetrators, as much of a small mod as they really seem, are unique to Dane county. The video I took is kinda shaky as basically improvised a electric utility box as a tripod for my cellphone, and to top it I recorded in portrait mode instead of landscape; but the audio is solid. These things do have a decent punch, and it surprised me greatly how fast they spin up. You can see that video here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iReHnJcBzok

Those are really the highlights from my venture today, below I have the nitty-gritty of my experiences today.
My goal was to hit as many of the sirens on ACAP50's map as I could, and I added 56 new photos to my collections. Of the ones on his list I was able to hit, I was surprised to find only one of the sirens on there (that I didn't already mention above) had been replaced, unfortunately it was a Perf+Penetrator.

The sirens that I saw today:
  • The ACA Banshee (#10) in Thurber Park (on Thurber Avenue) is still there
  • The Model 7 (#118) on Maher Avenue is still there
  • The Model 7 (#115) on Dean Avenue is still there
  • The FS 2001 (#114) is still there and definitely replace the Allertor that was there
  • The ASC T-121 (#102) near bridge road, looks absolutely weird but is obviously still there
  • The FS 500at (#106) near Hammersley Road is still there, but relatively hard to record.
  • The FS 2001 (#107) on Whitney way. (Do all FS 2001's eventually start leading forward on their rotator pipes?)
  • The Pref+Penetrator (#62) near the corner of E Verona Avenue and Lincoln Street has been moved to accomodate a fire station remodel. It has been moved roughly two hundred feet to the south. Location https://www.google.com/maps?q=42.990639,%20-89.526183
  • The Pref+Penetrator (#87) on Nine Mound Road has been replaced by a ASC T-128
  • The Siratone EOWS 1212 (#88) on Parkland Drive is still there
  • The previously unknown siren on Bergamont Blvd that replaced #21 (The Allertor) in Oregon is a 508
  • The Allertor (#69) in Belleville is still there, despite obviously starting to rust and in desperate need of a paint job/overhaul.
Additionally, as I was coming back from finding the Siratone 1212 (while on was on Whalen road interestingly enough), I looked out to one of the higher hills in front of me. And saw a new siren on one of the peaks. After I got the recording of the Pref+Pen I went back over and found a brand new siren (to our maps, it looks like it's been in for about a year) an ASC T-128 in a park. The location: https://www.google.com/maps?q=42.96892966,-89.53725118

One thing I should mention is there is technically one more siren in Verona. Out at the Epic Healthcare Systems, my stepdad says, that another siren has been installed up there. But it is private property, he is allowed in due to construction work. I am trying to get pictures and a location of that one.

I have upload the entirety of my day's photos to my photobucket, so feel free to go though them: http://s105.photobucket.com/user/turtlb ... ary/Sirens The entire day has left me pretty tired so I will start captioning the photos, but probably won't get to all of them.

Finally, I did give a call to the EMA to see if I could go up on their roof to get pictures of the H.O.R Super Sirex, but as you can imagine, my request was denied. I'll probably ask Dave when he gets back. Be pretty awesome if I could get a video of that thing going off from right close too.

One last side note guy's, after I got the recording of the Pref+Pen, I went in to get pictures of the controls and such, and I head a weird noise coming from one of the boxes:

(Once around 9 seconds and again at about 20 seconds)

By the way, is would the big box be the battery backup for this?

Yeah, that big box is going to be your batteries. That's a HUGE box though.
