It's a siren, it's not a sacred artifact. Federal didn't build their Thunderbolts to last forever, sirens will eventually give out and will need to be replaced.
As for going to the city council meeting and begging the city to keep the siren up, I will have to disagree with some people and say that's a horrendous idea. First, it will give a bad rep for the siren community. By you goin g to that meeting, many people including ones who are experts in this field and install sirens are being represented by someone who doesn't realize that sirens are meant to save lives by providing warning during a disaster, not to please us hobbyists. If you do end up going, you need to provide a solid argument on why it should stay in service other than to please you. Otherwise, you'll probably get kicked out because they'll see you as some kid who want attention. If you really do want to try to speak, then nobody is going to physically stop you from doing it.
In conclusion, sirens are not meant to be seen as a personal hobby, they are meant to save lives and that's it. I feel like this problem is shredding the community apart, and it's extremely disappointing to see us at an all-time low.
Like I said, you can go and voice your opinion, but this is just my personal viewpoint.
I am not doing this just for a hobby I'm doing it to save the city 25,000 dollars that can be spent on other things. I highly doubt I can stop them from replacing it. And battery backup for a cyclone out the window I would get them to install a 508 and use the thunderbolt elsewhere.

My suggestion? Deep breath everyone. Jacob Like my earlier suggestion, maybe you can see if you can get your hands on it. I would also suggest (just to avoid any possible troubles) trying not to present a plan that isn’t fully constructed to a city council. I’m not stabbing at you but I don’t think you know all the details involved. What if they got a better deal? What if they need battery back up? (which no I’m afraid running a thunderbolt on that doesn’t work very well.) also the refurbishment plan: do you know anyone who can actually do it safely in your area? Do you know about the city codes? Wire clearance? People below? Again I’m not saying this to be rude man, or beat a dead horse, I’m just trying to reason and maybe give you a few ideas. Thunderbolts are awesome, but it’s true they weren’t built to stay in service for a super long time.

whoooooo.... haaaaaa.... whoooooo..... haaaaaaa.... Deep breathing.
I agree on the fact that Thunderbolts weren't built to last forever. It's a siren. There are hundreds of others still around AND active. I fail to see why everyone is flipping about this.
