I'm not sure what happened to that Alertronic that was on Lower Hunters Trace. All I know is that there's a brand new 2001 in it's place, and I was going to record that Alertronic too.

I've got a recording on the Audio/Video forum from that same warning you're talking about on 10-18-07. It can be found here.

Hey Josh, I just wanted to pass the word that i know of a particular location of a Federal Model 7T that our city took off its map. CSX's railrard has a 2t22 that is still in service for tornado warnings, but on top of the engine repair shop building there is a model 7t on the roof. Its a faded color of CD yellow. The last time i remember them using the siren was for something railroad signaling call or it could of even been part of the city's system but it's probally disconnected now. The only reason i know it's there is because i saw it when i went down to there yard to pick through the dumpsters of glass insulators they took down off the rail communication poles. I'm a glass fiend

Where is that CSX Railroad building with that 2T22? Most of the 2T22's, listed as Triads, are at fire stations, however there's one at a school, one at a park in Fairdale, and one at Gordon Foods on South Seventh Street. I don't see the one at the CSX building. It may be located on the property of one of the fire stations or something.

CSX is located off Grade lane. Thats where the main railyard happens to be at. If I'm not mistaken there is a Fire station right around the corner from that particular location, if you have Google earth type in CSX Transportation, Louisville KY and look for grade lane. the tracks "almost run parallel to the road. The triad in particular is kind of on RR property, but its on a telephone pole next to the road across the street. I mean if you need a photo of it i have one on the computer and a backup image of it on my camera.

Looking at the map, that siren is located at Dixie Warehouse, at 6510 Grade Lane, and it is listed as a 2001.

I plan on talking to my uncle about going on another siren hunt, because from what you told me on the phone Yesterday, many of those 2001's are still Thunderbolts. I'd also like to get a picture of that silver 4/5 port 1000T you told me about Yesterday on the phone.

Edit: I just talked with a friend today, who works in the area of that Grade Lane siren, and she told me that she recently saw a white 2001 at that location, so if there was a 2T22 there, it has been replaced. She also told me that that 2001 looks like it's been there for a while. That's the closest siren to her work, and she heard it this past Tuesday, when it sounded for the Kentucky Statewide Tornado Drill.

I have a picture of the Doss Highschool Thunderbolt. Since there were problems posting some of my other pics, I'll just direct link to the files.

Doss Highschool Thunderbolt 1000T

Here's a much bigger version of this pic.

My Uncle Dave and I went on another siren hunt today, after the Kentucky Statewide Tornado Drill. We picked up fellow siren board member Minerva Mink, who was only a couple of miles from where we were, and we got more pics. Uncle Dave and I took this picture of the Thunderbolt 1000T at Bowen Elementary School. We heard that siren today during the drill, and it sounds great, and it rotates at 4 RPM's. John (Minerva Mink) took all the other pictures, so he'll be posting them in this thread.

We got a big shock at the Water Company, where we found a Thunderbolt 1003, which appeared to be out of commission, and we saw a Whelen, on another poll close by. That Whelen must belong to the Water Company, and not to the city, because the city has a contract with Federal Signal. I don't know how long that Whelen has been there, but it looks like it has been there a while. I believe it's the only Whelen in the whole city. I'm not sure what model it is, but John has a picture of it.

Edit: I talked to John today, and We're not sure if that 1003 is out of comission or not, so I plan on asking my uncle if he can get a recording of what ever goes off down there next week.

I was watching a video from here in Louisville last night, and according to one of the comments, siren #17, which is listed as a Thunderbolt at Crosby Middlescool, is a single tone Thunderbolt 1000. We don't have many of those left here. For the people who haven't read the Kentucky Statewide Tornado Drill thread in the Audio/Video forum yet, the Thunderbolt 1000 at Waggener Highschool was recently converted to a 1000T. However, I can hear what sounds like a single tone Thunderbolt 1000 at my uncle's house. It appears to be coming from the general direction of the Ford plant, but it sounds closer than that. It could be a very low pitched 2001 though. It's sound sort of reminds me of a Thunderbeam.

John and I think that older looking Whelen at the Water Company may be a 2800, but we're not sure. If anyone has any idea what Whelen model that is, please let us know. I plan on calling the Water Company today, to see if I can get any info on it, and also to find out whether that 1003 is out of commission or not.

John (Minerva Mink) and I just got some more info today about some of our sirens. John got a video of both the Whelen and the Thunderbolt 1003 at the Water Company. He should be posting it in the AudioVideo forum soon. The Whelen is a 4004, which belongs to the Louisville Water Company. It is used as a chlorine spill siren, and it is completely independent of the city's siren system. The Thunderbolt 1003 is still in active service, and it belongs to the city. I've never heard of a Whelen and a Thunderbolt, both in active service, in the same location, until now.

I also was very surprised to find out that we have another independent Whelen, somewhere in the south end of Louisville. I heard it sounding today a fiew minutes before the city's sirens tested. I don't know exactly where this Whelen is, but it sounds like an omni-directional siren. You can hear it in my recording in this thread. It's very faint, so you'll probably have to crank up the volume to hear it. I'm thinking that that Whelen also belongs to the Water Company, since I think that they have a pumping station somewhere in my end of town. My uncle and I will have to try and find it.
