Anyone know what these E8's sound like? Omni-directional 200

Thu Aug 21, 2008 9:12 pm

The new 2001's and the Eclipse-8's and the Eclipse's are part of the Diablo Canyon NPP upgraded warning system. They were the first ones to get the Eclipse-8. By the way, they are testing there system this weekend - two separate soundings I believe.

The Eclipse and the Eclipse 8 sound nothing like a 2001. The 2001 has an alerting frequency ~790 Hz. The Eclipse models alerting frequency is ~520 Hz - so they sound like T-121's or T-112's.

Indianapolis' new system will only have 2001-SRN's, SRNB's and 130's.

The recordings of Eclipses that I have heard sound like a more powerful, slightly slower version of a Model 2. They sound a lot like a T-121.

Perhaps the mystery siren is a common actual siren in custom housing?
Tempting!!!!!!

I live about 2 hrs 45 mins south of there. I have a friend who works at the TV station KSBY in SLO, and he's also a Ham operator and is a volunteer on the siren test program. He has a Toyota that I want, so maybe I'll go up there on the 27th (pending a confirmation of the test), hear the test, and come home with a new fun toy  . No promises though... We have a lot going on, and I'd have to commit the whole day.

I'm about 3 hours north of SLO, which is tough because I want to drive down there, but I have neither the time nor the gas. :(

they sound like sth-10s or stl-10s..but you can say they sound similar to a 2001
E8's have 8 ports so they sound nothing like an STH10 or 2001. They are a bit higher pitched than an STL10.
Hey they all sound like crusty cartoon sirens to me.lol Nothing amazing like a tbolt,500, P15,xt22 or Allertor

They only share a 2001 SRN-B's motor. If you were to put a Model 3 rotor and stator to that... there ya go! :P

Anyways, I still think that the Eclipse 8 is one of the best-looking sirens made today.

Siren test is tomorrow, according to the signup form. Anyone gonna snatch some footage of an E8?

And nothing on the mystery siren? Hmm, any good place for that pic to be stuck so it doesn't get lost in forum history?
