The Siren Board

The sound "going everywhere" is a good thing on the Q siren. It allows the siren to be effective at many differant angles not just directly ahead like an electronic siren. And you tell me one person that did not recognize a Q at full throtle! It demands that you recognize it.

You're right abouthelectronic siren speakers being too directional.

That's why I'd like a speaker aimed 60 degrees L if possible.
Another right would be nice, too.

Can't operate 4 at once. Would also defeathe purpose of limiting sound pollution.

So, would need a momentary contact button to send sound to perpendicular-aimed speakers only when arriving at intersections.

Then sound returns to forward-aimed speakers when button is released.

Brake sQueal?
Twice I and others in a vehicle did not recognize a Q approaching because
it was peaked at one pitch. We mistook it for a truck brake.
Another occasion a leaf blower.

Robert, you have bad ears! A Q approaching from either front or rear is likened to having barbed wire forced up your wrong end.

It wasn't just me. We ALL did not recognize it.

That is the advantage of Wail sounding through all the frequencies.
But you can peak Wail if you keep Manual button or foot switch depressed.

Was that the only siren operateing The Q. I think all q siren should be partnered up with an electonic. The q is good for blasting the intersection along with grover emergency horns.

Also, Is it me or were all of you looking arround for the "leaf blower" sound! Seems to be effective doen't it!!! That's the point of warning sirens. Get people looking for the EV so people can get out of the way safely! Score one for the Leaf Blowing Q siren. 8)

Yah, that's embarrassing pulling over for a leaf blower.

I've done worse:
Star Light, Star Bright, I once made a wish upon an airplane light!!

Since n.one recognized it as a siren, I didn't even consider pulling over or looking for an EV.
I thought it was a leaf blower, which did not attract my attention.

Then I was surprised by the approaching engine, which I would have liked to have seen earlier so I could watch longer.
I was able to quickly stop short of the intersection.

I prefer a real siren, but must admit onelectronic siren is best.

On I-25 I followed a semi for a minute before he discovered thEV.
A piercing penetrating airhorn would have helped. Or a spotlight
aimed into his L rearview mirror would hopefully have caught his eye.

I attempted to stop a semi for 10 miles one day. Lights and siren. Spotlight in mirror. I finaly had to pull in front of him and point. Made me very upset. EVERYONE should check the mirror every 30 seconds or even more!!! I was directly in the middle of both lanes. If he looked in the mirror even once he would have noticed me!

And you'll never convince me that a Q in full throttle isn't effective!!

I tried a spotlight in a trucker's mirror, but could not tell if the beam was aimed in the mirror.

I know truckers can be very tired and worn-out from long trips, and stop
checking in the rear because what happens behind them is of no concern-
unless law enforcement is behind.

My complaint withe trucker is that he was in lane #1 at 56 mph passing
others going 55 mph.

One trucker, seeing the EV well behind, pulled off the side of NB I-25 and stopped. It must have taken him a long time and a lot of fuel to accelerate back up to speed on the slight upgrade. Wishe hadn't done anything. I don't wanthem to even slow.

Hey Robert, heard an ambulance souding a Whelen siren comming down the HWY toward a busy intersection. Light was red for the ambulance and there were several cars in all three lanes. Cross traffic was rushing by when the ambulance hit the Q siren. Held it on peak as he entered the left turn lane. Traffic stopped abruptly when he hit the Q siren. And the cars that stopped had no clear veiw of the ambulance. They were looking arround for him when he blasted by them at about 25 mph and let off the Q switch. That was a very good example of how effective the Q is. They could'nt see what it was, tell where it was, or hear anything but the sustained high pitch of the Q, but they stopped and cleared the way. I love that siren.

Oh, it was a real one not the electronic toy version that SUCKS. 8)
