Were any sirens in St. Louis county damaged in the tornado? I could imagine any in the Sunset Hills area might have been toppled.

I haven't heard or seen anything on the news about any sirens being damaged or destoyed by the tornadoes. There is a Whelen 4003 on South Lindbergh Blvd. in Sunset Hills just a few blocks north of the area that got heavily damaged by the tornado. I imagine it was in some pretty heavy winds, though, since the tornado there was rated as an EF-3.

Why are they telling people this. Everyone knows they test the sirens the first Monday of the month at 11am weather permitting. I heard they ran the sirens three times during the New Year's Eve storms.

They just did an article about it on the news. If you live in the STL area they are doing a more extensive report tonight at 10

There is an article in the Post Dispatch this morning. Looks like they are speeding up the process of replacing the sirens.

And the article states that 2 or 3 sirens "got beat up" in the storms on Friday. Hopefully they were ones that were due to be replaced anyway.

No...they were always supposed to be up by April. Operational certification comes thereafter.

Just saw one of the new sirens on Lindbergh about a block away from an old Whelen 3016. Are they putting the new ones near the locations of all the old ones or are they putting them in new locations?

New locations that have been picked to maximize coverage of the new units. Some will be in the exact same location, but most will be in new locations (more often than not in residential areas).

bradhig, where at on Lindbergh are you referring to? North county or south county? And where is the new siren located?
