I have some photos of Sugar City's siren, but my internet connection is too broken to upload them, currently. I'll get them to you as soon as possible.

I have ZERO idea about what this is. I am at a loss, it isn't one of those "low resolution" scenarios.. but god, this is just at my complete loss.

I found this location on some website that had the siren pictured. This location is #136(at least thought) in the LA system, on the interactive map, it says that hte location is missing, but this isn't far from it at all, the Cheveron station made it easy for me to find. But... I have no idea what it is. Where is
Here I found out about it..

To me, it looks like it was a vent for something underground, but the fact that it seems to actually be a siren and not a vent makes me a bit confused. I have no idea where the power would've been connected to it originally, or where the motor was, though. Unless the motor is located in the base and the chopper is in the middle two rows of the stator...

Weiser, Idaho, has the 1918 version.

I think the LA siren is just a sewer vent.

At first I thought vent pipe also. However look close at the base. The base appears to be a vented stand. A vent pipe IMO would be a sealed pipe coming out of the ground. Also to the immediate right on the sidewalk is a cover for underground electric service. Interesting mystery.

Would the vent be for a furnace?

I have looked at it a couple of times and am leaning very heavily towards an underground vent for a tunnel or subway system, the city of Philadelphia had a bunch of these vents as well for the city steam plant. To muddy the waters a bit, some of the Philly vents had a small siren mounted on top of them.. I am still going to say this is an underground vent. I also read the supporting story and it would appear to me that they got ahold of information that there was a siren located there and seized on that thing as the siren for thier website.

Sucks that no one on the board that I know of lives around there, otherwise I would see if someone could drive by there and see if the "ports" spin.

Looks like there's some kind of mesh over the openings on it:
