EDIT: My test feedback: The sirens around South Fairmount seemed to go for about 30 seconds, but I could hear at least one or two in the distance that got stuck running for about 3 minutes.

The T-128 at Beechmont and Markley ran for 3 minutes.

Is it possible that the EMA does silent testing regularly, somehow knows when a siren needs a simple repair without doing a regular test, or regularly does routine maintenance on each siren? Today, I noticed that the Calhoun Hall T-128 is pointed in a different position than where it stopped for this month’s test. I ask, because it performed just fine for the test, and am kind of surprised to see it in a different position.

Good eye. I was there for preventive maintenance today. We replaced the batteries and gel cell. When ASC/ANC installed ALL the sirens they installed every one incorrectly (nothing
major but half assed) For example they used VHF connectors on a lot of the interface cables to the radio and forced the connector into a N-Type connector, ALL the battery blankets have been installed wrong and even has instructions on them, screws on the terminal block have been so loose that sometimes the door open/close alarm goes off, Battery cables were on backwards and the wrong way. So I have been going on preventive maintenance runs, and tomorrow I will be replacing 4 slip rings that have burned up due to a manufactures defect. This is our 14th or 15th siren (10%) of new sirens that have had burnt brushes or slip rings burnt up.

We have replaced 15 slip rings on the newer sirens in Hamilton County.

Yeowch. Some of those sure don't look too good! Glad they're fixed now.
