Very interesting, to say the least. I bet it has something to do with ASC's increasing popularity. The competition is getting fierce between the two.

Yes, this new siren is the best they've had in ages. And, the guy likes to say we'll love whats coming soon from FS. I wish it was dual-tone sirens - especially with this new Equinox, but we all know that wont happen.

Sentry and ASC will own Federal in my book...hands down.

ASC has the T-128 with it's low-tone that likes to penetrate walls better and carry further distances. Now Federal jumps in the low-tone, DC, directional game with a new 2001 that can only do 126 dB? Nahh...I think ASC can do this one. Let's not forget ASC has the 132dB @ 100ft, low tone DC powered T-135.l

Sentry also pulls their own weight too. They have the battery powered 40V2T which pushes a good 130 dB @ 100ft....pretty awesome for an omnidirectional siren.

My only concern is how hard it'll be to convince cities that the 4db drop is worth it. My old 1000 would annihilate the 2001 that was a quarter mile away, even without full plenum pressure. I was maybe pushing 124-125dBC at 100'. It penetrated my neighbor's house across the street to the basement, and that was pointed AWAY from his house. But the numbers are what cities see most of the time, and I guess time will tell what happens.

Well, we all know that lower tones travel farther and penetrate structures better, so Federal should be able to make that work for them. If the sound travels farther, fewer units would be needed to cover a given area so the Equinox could be advertised as a "cost-effective" long-range siren, while the 2001 would remain the flagship powerhouse siren.

I hear ya, it's just a lot of people not knowing any better just look at the numbers and go, "this one's better." I get a kick out of people that read Consumer Reports and come into best buy saying that a certain product is better for them because CR said so.
Moral: It'll need sales experience to back up the fact that low pitch sound carries further. I think that shouldn't be an issue given their large dealer network. Given the knowledge level of dealers and technicians around here, I'd say FedSig's got it made.

Would they still want to keep the current 2001? I mean, why not just scrap the old ones all together? No real point to selling both, still...
