that is a non functional thunderbolt peaking out from behind the ati on the first pic there used to be over 40 of these beutiful sirens in san fan but they were removed in 2000 :cry:

I saw a number of the ATIs in San Francisco during my 2011 trip there. The one at Union Square is mounted so low that a person standing on upper deck of the open air tour bus could almost touch it.

Got to hear the Tuesday test(didn't hear voice message) quite by accident. I had just left the Mission Dolores and was on way down street for lunch when the sirens sounded. Must say they sounded better than the ATIs we had in Nashville!

I saw one ATI atop a building as airport shuttle was leaving the main highway. Saw several of the pole mounted ones on street corners.

While this thread was indeed revived, I do want to ask: How much stress is put on the drivers when they emulate that STL10 tone vs their high pitched squeal?

Also while it is still going, how many sirens did SF have, how many do they have, and what types did they have? I know they hade 40 some odd thunderbolts, but there must be a lot of STL-10s and such.
