Yeah, I've been told by multiple sources that "N-5" was found to be a false term for what is apparently actually called the M-3. There still seems to be mystery behind Sterling's model numbers though.

Judging by the fact that it's near an airport, I'd say its some kind of beacon or some other aviation thing.
