Lightning detector. Has the dome, the light, the loudspeakers, can't imagine it's anything else. No way it's a pneumatic siren, no compressor setup at the bottom or air lines running into building, not to mention it looks nothing like one. When the FD said it was a siren from Germany they might have meant a lightning detector siren from Germany.

While I don't think it's a pneumatic siren, I also highly doubt its a lightning detector siren, considering;
1) How old it is, and
2) Why use a lightning detector siren for fire calls and general emergencies?
Maybe the reason we cant identify it is because it might have a homemade hood? It's not uncommon for fire departments to repair their damaged sirens with homemade parts.

It has barely any room for a chopper, now you might be asking about putting the hat in the chopper.
The hat is a cone so it would be impossible to fit a chopper in there.
Most likely isn't a homemade cone because then it would have to look exactly or similar to fit the chopper.
I think since it was purchased from Germany, it most likely is a Pneumatic siren

Well if it was a lightning detector, the dome would most likely be metal. I also see two metal pipes going into the siren, that could be supplying air, and why would a fire department own a lightning detector?

Forgive me, but has anyone called and asked if the department knows? Even then, at least they could tell you what the controller says it is.

I don't see any air pipes and if they were I'm sure they're just those... what are they called... the wire cover things.
They're plenty of space for a small rotor in there and I'm sure it's something home made.

After snooping around that siren for a while, I would not be surprised if it was a small Whelen with a strange cone shoved on top of it.
