I'm calling bs on #1. It takes a BIG omnidirectional siren to even come close to equaling a rotating siren. Big difference in db output.

Rotator failures on properly maintained sirens aren't very common.

The mod may come in seven different versions but the whelen 2900 comes in 10 different models.

#2 & #3 true but let's say that said siren was still in production and Federal wanted to make it better than it was (same design but with more modern and reliable components) could that be done?
I'm sure it could still go a long way as far as improvement, but it wouldn't make much sense with the array of electronic sirens Federal offers. You have the Modulator giving you reliable omnidirectional coverage and the DSA as a cheaper, more flexible alternative for small-scale and set directional notification, which would put the EOWS somewhere in between as a filler that would not do much more than blur the distinction between the other two. Then again, with competition such as the Vortex, the EOWS wouldn't hold much ground even after a refreshed reintroduction because the competition from Whelen seems to have already established itself as the leading oscillating electronic siren on the market. I guess part of running any manufacturer is analyzing the market around you and deciding on whether or not jumping at a new opportunity would give you a favorable outcome.

Are we really having the electronic VS. mechanical debate?

No, it's the omni vs directional debate.

The #1... Even though this is a different company a Whelen WPS 2910 puts out the same amount of sound as a 4004/ Vortex R4. 1600 vs 4000 Watts. I was up north recording a Vortex. The output from that is the same in my ears as the 2909s in Ft. Benning. I aggree with Jeb.

That's fine for non-voice installs. But for voice, you really do need omnidirectional. If you aren't going to use voice, then yes, you may as well go mechanical.

Ah. Thank you sir. This is the famous "OMG! Jailbar Thunderbolt!" kid we are talking with here. And I do understand some of you are trying to explain things to him, but can you be less rude about it?
