Well yea I know the plant is retired but I heard that they were still testing the sirens as the "Danger" or "Hazards" of the plant were still there. I was just asking if the 1003s still got a little bit of exercise with the whelens but I guess not.

Cool. I think I got one for you... somewhere near muscatine Iowa I saw a thunderbolt 1003. I'll try to find the exact location tho.

The Whelens are still active and used ,but not for emergency's at SONGS ,they are now used for Tsunamis and other emergency events. IDK about if the 1003s are still tested since they are the evacuation sirens for the plant and not apart of the community alert siren system (Whelens) ,but since I go down to Dana Point every June for vacation we have stopped by the plant and last year the 1003 that is pole mounted ,the horn was pointed at the ocean ,and when we went this year the horn was pointing west. I don't remember the horn direction the reactor mounted 1003 was pointed last year and this year ,so IDK about that one ,but the Whelens are still controlled by the jurisdictions but they don't test them in mid October like they used to ,they haven't announced a new test date and whether if it would be annually or monthly.
