Thunderbolt10031 wrote:You may be right costal, from what we can see the 1000t was mentioned the most as the model to produce. I think it will be the same 5/6 port ratio but may have some slight modifications from the original. Now with this new model it will more than likely sport the FC controller with an extra motor starter for the blower but with that I doubt that there will be different chopper terminals like the previous RCM panel, but who knows... it might.

Keep in mind 125dBc is the least that Federal will except on this model, but they may try to make it even more effective because 125 is pretty weak compared to other sirens.
The thing I find funny is they are fixing something that wasn't broken and was also laid to rest. They are probably testing different port designs and heck probably messing with the blower because the sutorbilt legend and motor are so freaking expensive. So why not find an alternative? I could believe the 1000Ts being close to 126-127 but the single tone ones seem much louder than a 130 not to mention the occasional ear catching it at 9 miles... I say again. But that could just be because of potency... FS told me that the audio of sirens gets to be an "illusion" making them seem louder or softer than they really are. But literally all it will probably ever be is a guess as far as how loud they were go. FS is going to glam up the thunderbolt because heck it was probably by far the best siren they produced with maybe the model 5 coming in for the non rotational ones... (I will glam it up too because my 2 favorite sirens are my "Little babies" that I own. :D But the reality is we just don't know and can speculate all day but it's all speculation.) The advantage once again is for a mechanical dual tone siren and or a siren that you can actually hear in attack mode... Instead of: wwWWWOOOOOOOOoooh... wwwwWWWWWOOOOOOOooooh... wwwwWWWOOOOOOOooooh... You actually get a full: wwwWWWWOOOOOOOOOooooohhhhhhhwwWWWWWOOOOOoooohhh!!!!! The bass of those sirens will rattle your windows if you are close enough. (Heck we had a single tone one a few miles from us and a lot of 2001s closer and I could hear the thunderbolt inside the house over everything else. Even the closer 2001s. Then we opened the door and oh there are the 2001s! But it didn't sound like every day noise to me.) Anyways my point of this whole thing is: It is a great siren. We still have enough coming down and in graveyards to restore them even if FS doesn't bring it back. Weather they do or not may not change much. With a current 125 DB output people won't go for it unless they could get an original one for cheaper just by getting it used. So if it stays at 125 they will probably just scrap the project. But hey I don't know. Just my guess. Worst case scenerio they don't bring it back and our friends here on the board including Jeb and Ian will most likely be restoring and putting up more. Unless something changed...

Whoops, looks like you mistook my lengthy rant for quite the assertive rambling. No harm intended, buddy. :P
You don't know what they are trying to accomplish
Do you? I certainly don't, but given an official statement that they are coming up with something, I try to look at the situation realistically. The fact that Federal claims to be involving themselves in an old design is far-out, and I applaud them for it, but how much of a powerful business case do you think the Thunderbolt will have against its two established brothers? I personally believe we're simply looking at a curious experimentation; take that as you may. Nevertheless, I'm as stoked about this as anybody.
you don't know what this siren is going to be like.
How much better could it possibly be than a 508 or T-128? I'm sure you can notch the thing a few extra decibels above the rest, but at what extra effort? ASC managed to squeeze a few extra decibels out of their lemon by jacking up the motor to three or four times the power output of the T-128's and supersizing everything else to suit, and the lemon is about as efficient as a mechanical siren design will get. I can't see a supercharged siren gaining much output without getting beefed up, either... which brings us back to the main point - unless it can fulfill its own unique share of the market, it's just fighting a tide.

Maybe I'm the only one, but I have a very hard time believing that Federal Signal is bringing back and planning on mass-producing a Thunderbolt, especially based solely on a couple of Facebook posts and messages. Some of you are getting flat-out defensive when someone raises questions, when in reality there is good reason to. If anything, I could see it maybe being like an Equinox (not published/advertised and only available upon request).

As much as you may not like to hear it, the Thunderbolt as it was does not compare to the 2001 or 508. So even if it is brought back, don't expect it to be anything like what it used to be.

Until something official is published, let's tone the defensiveness down a little bit.

They could be saying that on Facebook to shut up the people that keep crying about the darn thing. It'd be funny as heck if they ended up trolling us all.

The Equinox and 2001-130 are sold along side each other as the 2001 Series. In published cutsheets they get about the same range.

SirenMadness what I meant was that currently we really have no idea what Federal has up thier sleeves, and sorry for misunderstanding that. It was like 3 in the morning when I read that post and replied to it.
As a side note you have to think on how bad to the bone they could make the T-bolt with modern technology.

If I was one of the ones getting offensive I am sorry. Was just trying to get a point across.

By the way if anyone is curious as to what this would look like I whipped up a SRNB Thunderbolt in Photoshop.

Bet you can't guess where the head and rotator came from.

That is a very good Photoshop; I'll bet if you didn't even tell them it was photoshoped they might think it was official!

I should have added a blower pipe in to make it even more realistic. :P
It turned out pretty nice speaking that I was using Photoshop CS2.

There was a lot of things I could have done but it was 3 AM when I stopped.
