Early 1970s Thunderbolt Siren Decal Artwork by woodyrr, on Flickr

I refined my artwork one last time so that the lightning bolt can be seen inside the letters and to do away with any other extraneous objects that would block the yellow paint.

The yellow background is just so that I could confirm that everything that should be transparent was.

Thanks to all of you who critiqued my work (on the 1970s Artwork thread).

I am now satisfied with it.

When the time comes, I hope you don't mind me using this decal on my Thunderbolt. It isn't NEAR done yet, but I want it to look original.

Also, excellent work on the paint! How did you get it to look so good?

I'll be glad to help anyone who wants to use this logo for their own private and strictly non commercial use in restoring early 1970s Thunderbolts.

That is turning out beautiful. Looking forward to seeing it all back together.

I hope my 1003 looks that good when it's done.

Keep up the good work!

Sorry to stray off topic (late night working+ inhailing pledge and floor wax the whole night  ), but just curious seeing your from Parksburg PA is your 1003 the infamous pink one the FD had? I had heard it broke down a while back, wasn't sure if it was replaced or repaired. If it was replaced, what replaced it?

Woody: that is one gorgous looking siren. I'm really digging all the T-bolt restorations lately.

Haha I love that it's known as the pink one. It was red but faded to the "pink" it is now. Yes that will be mine. I'm not 100% sure what's up with it. I know it was turned off due to the pole rocking. They were afraid out would yank the wires out of the wall. I have heard there was issues with it other than that but not sure. They had some dude that used to work on it that would tell them he couldn't find parts and had to hand make everything, of course charge them crazy amounts then. Plus certain people in town didn't like it so they gave up on it not wanting to spend money and dealing with people.

I'm gonna do a thread once I'm in possession of it. Waiting on a friend to sneak up with his work crane and take it down. I belong to the fd so I've done all the disconnecting and stuff getting it ready to come down

Nothing has replaced it not sure if anything will. Now that I'm getting the tbolt people have been talking about getting something "just in case" of bad weather or attacks

Thank you everyone for the kind words about my Thunderbolt.

It doesn't look quite as good in person as it does in the pictures, but I am working on it.

Right now, I am working on priming and painting the 10' length of standpipe that I will be using to mount it. I have a friend who is milling the threads out of one of the couplings that I got so that I can simulate a coupling along the pipe.

The number of thunderbolt restorations have come a long way since many years ago when there were only Adam Smith, Eric Green, and Ben Shinn that I knew of that had restored one.

I had always imagined having a Thunderbolt of my own, but never really figured that it was a realistic expectation.

I am glad to hear of everyone who has recently had the opportunity to restore a Thunderbolt. They are becoming harder and harder to find around here.
