Well, in my opinion, a Model 2 is a good starter siren. Small and light weight compared to other large sirens. And usually can be had for no more than $350. Also, easy to restore if the sheet metal isn't in bad condition.

Blower, head, and controls of a Thunderbolt weigh in at a combined 1000 lbs. Very heavy and quite large! If you are ever in Minneapolis and want to see a Thunderbolt in person, PM me. I live in South Minneapolis and have two Tbolts at my house now (amongst the others in my signature), and I am getting a third 'Bolt tonight.

Just my $.02 for ya. :D

That'd be cool if they called you and said "come get it!" Local sirens are cool to have in my opinion. Only one of my sirens is for sure from MN (the P10 is from Deephaven). The 2T22 is possibly from here, but the guy didn't know for sure. my other sirens are from Wisconsin, South Dakota, North Dakota, and Nebraska.

The one that's arriving tonight is originally from Texas, and I am buying it from another collector. I wouldn't like to spill the beans on the amount paid for it, but we'll just say you'd have to cut a LOT more lawns for this guy. :D

Thanks!! I have two 1003s, a 3T22, a 2T22, an STH-10, an Allertor, a P10, and a WG. Tonight I add the Tbolt 1000 (single tone).

EDIT: I guess I'm a bit of a siren nut. Key word NUT.

If the city is taking down a siren and you ask for it before they take it down, do you think they could give it to you for free? Like do they have to pay for a dumping fee? Because I'd think, if you have to pay for a dumping fee, why not give it to someone for free or a low price so they don't have to dump it.

Generally the city will want to sell it on an auction, but if you can work it out with them, you might luck out and get it for free. Sometimes they will want you to arrange for removal, which could run you $500-$800, depending on who you hire. Otherwise the city will have to pay for removal, and whoever they pay might not be careful and you could get a banged up siren...I guess it's up to whoever the EM guy/gal is and how willing they are to work with you.

Ok, because I was talking with someone from Mendota Heights. They said there going to take there TBolt out soon. Before she told me that, I emailed them asking if I could have the siren if they ever remove it. They said they would consider me. My dads work has a crain to. Just a portable one for doing high up security and stuff. I don't know how much they hold.
