Very good pictures. I know I can't ID the one in the 3rd picture. Looks like a model 2 or a FEDELCODE.

The third picture is of that same Model 2.

Nice pictures, BTW.

Today I went with a friend to the sportsman's show/boat show at the Big E in West Springfield, MA. The trip turned into an accidental siren hunt! Here's what I found.

My first 2T22. I believe this is technically a Windsor Locks or East Granby station:

And a Model 5 at the main fire station in East Granby:

However, my greatest prize was seen from a great distance. I was across the river from downtown Springfield, but even at that distance I could spot the Mobile-Directo or whatever it's called up on top of a building!

The 2T22 you found is actually East Granby's 3T22. I'll have to take a drive out there to see if it's still active. East Granby also has another 5, behind a strip mall. Windsor Locks at their FD has a WPS 2805 I believe (Dave correct me if I'm wrong) and 3 diaphragm horns. I know the horns are still active as I've heard them over my scanner a few times. If you're ever on I-91 around the basketball hall of fame, you'll see the Mobile-Directo better. From I-91 north, look to your left just before the hall of fame. You may beable to see it better from I-91 south. Also a few miles south on I-91 off exit 49 you'll see Enfield's North Thompsonville fire district station. They have a 10HP STH in a tower, that is active. It sounds for fire calls from 7am-7pm  (I hate it when VFDs cave into belly aching neighbors), and does one blast everyday except Sunday at noon. There's also a nice looking Sterling M behind the Hazardville FD. It sounds daily either at noon or 6pm not sure which (I believe noon as I've heard 2 tones at noon, one being for North Thompsonville the other I suspect Hazardville) as well as for fire calls.

Does anyone have a picture of that Mobile Directo? Or any Mobile Directo? I'm very curious to see one, since I've heard the Allertor was based off of its design.

Here's Dave's pic of this Mobile-Directo (how I missed this pic until 10 minutes ago is beyond me): Image

As you can see, it's identical to the Allertor, but the main differnece is the Mobile-Directo is belt driven. Springfield has several of them, probably haven't sounded in quite sometime.

Thanks for the info! The funny thing is, I passed what might be a strip mall in East Granby but didn't look for a siren there. Also, saw (while still somewhere in CT) a fire station off to the side of the highway, on my right as I was headed north, but no sirens. They must have not been visible to me. And that picture of the Mobile-Directo would imply that there is some sort of metal frame tower on the building...If that's what that is, then I definitely know I was looking at the right building. Too bad I was so far away!

Also, I found this historical photo on the website of the Crystal Lake fire department:

I've been by Crystal Lake's FD many times, as I'm not too far from it. The siren pictured is no more, as is that FD. They have a newer FD with a newer WS 2008 behind the station.

I had a feeling that East Granby had a 3T22... how you may ask? There is a picture of thier firehouse on firenews.org (A wonderful site!!) and if you look closely you can just barely make out what is either an air intake or part of a leaf. If you weren't looking for it.. you wouldn't see it!!
