It kinda resembles an S10 Screamer to me. Other than that I'd say it's a vertical HOR.

a screaming witch hat on a pole! HA! in all honesty, it's either an OLD model 5/7 or an SD10. custom housing for sure.

My mystery siren

Hey guys, I'm kinda new here, both to the forum and to the air raid siren scene, but I've found them very interesting.

I recently acquired a siren of my own. It is from an RAF station where I fly from. It, however unfortunate it is to say, was a source of entertainment for some of the people there who found it hilarious to spin it up by hand and drop things into the rotor because it has been sat in our crew room for a few years. I hope to restore this siren to as close to it's former glory as possible, as currently the bolts have all rusted, along with the front cover for it (heater?) and unfortunately, the information plate too. I can only get some basic info from looking at the pictures, It says faintly "Service Electric Co Ltd" and I can also see from the info that it has a 400/440v 3-phase motor for use at 50Hz.

The Incredibly rusty front panel was originally attached (of course) but upon trying to remove the bolts holding it on, when I first took an interest in it, most of them sheared off because of their age and the rust associated with that. Of the 5 bolts that were left in there when I found it, only two were completely removed.

I have looked and haven't managed to find any more details on this siren, and haven't seen any similar ones on this site or any other. I was hoping you guys could help me out in identifying it :)

Attatched are some pictures I took of it. Any questions please ask :D

Here's a something in Flovilla, GA. One of my friends thinks it is an ACA Banshee, but I think it is a Whelen OA-1

It looks more like a Whelen to me.

Yeah I think Flovilla has whelens, or read it somewhere. We do have a couple of Banshees in the southern part of the state.

Thats an interesting one alright. I'm guessing it use to be a double ended 10/12 port siren at one point or always single rotor? Its definatly WW2 air raid just not sure on the type. The closest siren that looks like yours is this one:

It doesn't appear to have been a double ended one. As far as I can tell, it has always been single rotor, but I can't tell for sure. I see no reason why they'd remove a rotor from it and put a cap on the motor.

WW2 is consistent with what little detail I have regarding its' history. I want to restore it, but I kinda have no idea where to start. The bearing is almost perfect, and the rotor is fantastically balanced. I don't want to start taking old bolts off to strip and repaint if it's not going to go back together properly. Free spinning and dirty is better than all shiny and completely broken :3

If anyone finds any more details on this particular siren I'd be very grateful.

I'm aware of them making some single klaxon sirens in the UK. In fact a recording of one has been used countless times in films and songs.
