When I was aout eight years of age, I use to go down to our local oil-refinery, which was extremely huge. They had a siren there, though it was masked amidst all of the buildings and other structures. The siren used to go off for one minute every Sunday at noon; I think that it still hopefully does. Anyway, I saw a siren one day, and I think that it was the siren that I've been seeing. I also use to walk down the street to a high-rise building with a siren on it. I sometimes went to that building simply for the siren. These days, I don't hunt for sirens, as Windsor doesn't have any so far, and I don't yet go to Detroit, though I could hear their sirens well. Once I do decide on going to Detroit, I will take pictures and possibly videos, maybe.

I go siren hunting in summer (made a mistake in November 2004, and
slipped on ice). I try to get areas that I know have a "good siren selection"
and places i've never been to.

I usually do it while I'm on the road for other reasons... Once in awhile, I'll make a special trip to hear a test though

Last trip was a bust, (Texas back to California; only one siren spotted). But last summer, I got some good photos of sirens on a round trip from LA to Reno!

I think of where the best place would be for a siren -- and don't look there.
It is usually somewhere else.

As a green person not wanting to waste expensive fuel and make air pollution, I can't justify driving around looking for sirens in our Ford Expedition .
So, I manage to discover some while driving to other places.
(I do plan to call and ask where sirens are located.)

Unfortunately, Aurora, CO has all electronic sirens.
They are well dispersed for the best coverage.
But I wouldn't even bother taking a picture of speakers.

I hunt for sirens right where I live, in Cincinnati Ohio. It's a great place for sirens because the Siren Archive has very few of Cincinnati siren pics, and they turn up when you least expect it! 8)
If your siren is a-failin'
Chances are that it's a Whelen
And if it's just about to die
Then it must be an ATI

It is surprising that anyone tests on Sunday.
Why disturb the quietest day of the week?

Denver and neighboring cities test the 2nd Wednesday at 11 a.m.

On the 13th I hope to be near a Thunderbolt.

Englewood, south side of Denver, has two Allertors which did not operate the day I tried to record them.

What does it matter? Buffalo Grove, IL (which has a model 5 and a 2001
200 feet from eachother) tests every day of the week at noon.

I'm sure many other towns do this too.
