Shamrock, TX Ghetto-Bolt 1003

Sun Apr 10, 2011 1:29 am

Ben, Kyle and I went out to Shamrock, TX to get a video of their 1003. I was fairly confident that this siren wasn't going to operate at all, given its in not-that-good condition. It appears to have fallen down or blown over at one point, and has brand new-ish looking hose clamps keeping the standpipe on the pole. Shamrock also has 2 Federal SD-10's, located at opposite ends of town. Testing consists of Attack/Hi-Low Attack.

That's some pretty poor maintenance team that they have there! :? Even the little hi-lo solenoids snaps are louder than the siren its self!

Next time you get a chance, could you take some close up pics of the damage to the horn and where it bolts to the chopper cap? It almost looks like that old drawing of the red and black striped Thunderbolt...

They should seriously either overhaul this thing or get a new siren...
Kicking it in the siren party since '08

Sad to see one in this kind of shape. Do they just not have the funds to replace, or what?

It might be upsetting to see how bad of shape that thing is in, but it also shows how strong they are. I mean, with all its been through and it still somewhat works.

I should have taken more pictures of the siren, but I was in kind of a hurry when I took them a few weeks ago. The front two screws on the chopper tube are missing that hold the horn bracket on, and I would assume its because of the fall. The horn has pulled away from the top of the chopper cap, and isn't sitting flush against the opening.

As far as funding to fix it, I am not sure. I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't really away of the extent of the damage. A lot of towns in West Texas can afford to lose a siren, but because of the placement of the SD-10's, this siren leaves a huge coverage gap.
