Twister: Fury On the Plains (1996)

One of the greatest documentaries of all time.. Lots of incredible tornado footage from the 50's to the 90's. Quite a few classic sirens in the bunch as well.. so grab some popcorn and sit back.

It's split into 4 different videos, but you can find the other three splits in YouTube's sidebar.

The mid 90s were fantastic for severe weather related media. Tornado!, Twister, and Fury on the Plains. I was in tornado heaven in 1996. I had this documentary taped on VHS, probably watched it at least once per week for years. It was the holy grail of tornado documentaries.

If I'm not mistaken there were a couple other spin-off documentaries.

This looks great - thanks! I dont believe I've seen it, but I could be mistaken. In the 90s, I was mostly elementary and middle school, and used to watch these tornado documentaries all the time. Detroit's Channel 4 would do an annual show each Spring called Tornadoes: A Deadly Matter. There was another one that (I believe) the Learning Channel would run quite often, though the name escapes me.

I also love Twister!, save for the total lack of sirens in the entire film. And, I've never seen Tornado!, so Ill have to look it up. :)

Ah, the good old days, back when raw footage was king and weather documentaries where actually worth watching.

Tornadoes looks scarier on VHS, at least I think so.

Actually there is a siren in "Twister" You don't see it, but you can hear it as the tornado smashes into the outdoor movie theater and while Jo looks at the twister.

Tornado! is on netflix, I literally just finished watching it

Here is one of the sirens shown in the film:

Sounded like a slow 10/12 siren (50Hz maybe)

The other siren in the film is a PA horn with the unmistakable 2T22 sound. (well dubbed in sound)

Another post
Just got through watching the documentary, if I have seen it before, IT has been a long time.

Other good documentaries:
The Chase (Produced by The Weather Channel)
Voyages: In the hunt for tornadoes (A&E)
Extreme Storms - Nature at her worst (Independent) http://www.extremestorms.com

The first two I have on VHS (Taped off TV) I have converted to DVD, but have mis-placed the discs, so I need to re-convert.

The Last one I have on DVD, I actually found and bought it at Wal-Mart

There are some good ones on Netflix that I have watched.

Around 7:00 in part 3, a siren is silenced when the tornado passes through the power lines.
